Player-manager Gary Naysmith apologised after East Fife were unable to snatch all three points from 10-men Berwick.
The gaffer conceded after the game that he would have taken a point from the encounter at Shielfield before the match.
However, his side’s chances of taking all three were boosted before the half-time break when Ross Drummond was red-carded.
Overall, the Fifers weren’t at their best throughout the 90 minutes, something the gaffer said just wasn’t good enough.
He said: “I’m relieved that we got a point but I have to start off by apologising because our performance wasn’t good enough. There wasn’t much in it in the first half and it was a rubbish start to the game.
“Their lad gets sent off which was a bit soft if you ask me. We looked to impose ourselves but just never got going in the second half and then gave Berwick a goal through sloppy play.”
Neither side was able to get into any sort of attacking rhythm in the early stages as the game was littered with a series of fouls. Dwayne Coultress had a half-chance for the hosts but he failed to test Ryan Goodfellow.
The game teased the Sheifield support into thinking it was about to burst into life when Nathan Austin’s effort was stopped at one end.
Berwick went straight up the park and Blair Henderson’s 20-yard drive came back off the post.
But the home side’s task was made that little bit more difficult when they were reduced to 10 men shortly before the break. Drummond had picked up a booking for a silly foul earlier in the half and followed that up with his second yellow following a dive in the Fife box.
But Berwick deserve huge credit for the way they regrouped at the break and managed to match East Fife for the first 15 minutes of the second half.
They got their noses in front when Finn Graham, who spent pre-season with the Fifers, wriggled himself free of his marker and fired past Ryan Goodfellow.
East Fife had chances to level, with Austin going close and Kevin Smith having an effort cleared off the line.
The Fifers continued to press and got their reward when Kyle Wilkie cut inside the Berwick box and fired high past Walker.
