Dunfermline v Rangers: Pars aim to show leaders true form

Dunfermline skipper Josh Falkingham says the Pars will play host to League One leaders Rangers at East End Park tonight determined to extend their fine run of form.

After being beaten 3-1 by Ally McCoist’s side at Ibrox in November, the Pars have not lost in the eight fixtures played since and have won five out of their last six league games.

Rangers enjoy an 11-point cushion over the Fife club ahead of tonight’s televised clash, but Falkingham insists the pacesetters will know they have been in a game after locking horns with the Pars for the second time this term.

“We need to show what we are doing week in week out now,” he said. “We can’t use any excuses that it is against Rangers a ‘big’ team.

“But we feel with the confidence that we have now that we can beat anybody.

“We will let them take all the headlines, let them be the big favourites and we are more than happy to keep going about our business quietly.

“We are not just grinding out results, we are putting on good performances.

“As long as that keeps going we will look forward to this game.

“We feel we are good enough, and hopefully we will have a good night and put on a performance that we deserve.”

Falkingham scored against Rangers when the teams last met, although it proved too little, too late as the Ibrox club won 3-1.

However, the Pars felt aggrieved that evening as Rangers’ opener came from a contentious penalty.

Pars boss Jim Jefferies said: “We have got them at home and we know Rangers have quality and strength but if we play as we can then they will know that they are going to be in a game.”

Rangers dropped their first league points of the season against Stranraer at Ibrox on Thursday, but Lee McCulloch is looking forward to the trip.

He said: “They’re a good team and have got some good players so it is going to be tough.

“I don’t think we could have picked a better place to play coming off the back of the Stranraer game.”
