Late team selection for East Fife

Late team selection for East Fife

East Fife manager Gary Naysmith has delayed naming his side for their meeting with in-form East Stirling at Ochilview as he has a number of injury concerns to deal with.

Spanish defender Julen Etxabeguren is struggling with the ankle injury that saw him miss out on the 1-0 defeat from Queen’s Park last weekend, and Allan Walker is also a doubt.

Caolan McAleer and Kevin Smith reamin sidelined, while Naysmith is also without suspended Nathan Austin.

The only bright spot is that Stevie Campbell is expected to shake off a sickness bug to feature.

Naysmith said: “I want as strong a team as possible to face East Stirling so I will wait until Saturday lunchtime to see who makes it. Our opponents are on a terrific run where they have beaten the top three of Albion Rovers, Queen’s Park and Arbroath.

“We are the only team to have beaten them recently and we had to dig deep to do that. We had to grind out that win and we will need the same approach in this game.”

Naysmith is also looking for his players to show that they can recover from setbacks.

He explained: “We have not been good at handling defeats so far this season. When we have lost we have tended to start a run of games where we lose and we cannot afford that at this stage of the season.

“We were unlucky against Queen’s Park and deserved something even though we were down to ten men. We have to be able to show that we can move on from that defeat and winning at East Stirling will prove that.”
