Montrose roared back from 2-0 down at half-time to beat League Two basement rivals East Stirling and end their run of eight games without a win.
Montrose now sit four points clear of their opponents who are bottom, although the Shire have two games in hand.
A delighted assistant-boss John Holt said that the game was a test of character for the young Montrose players and one which they came through with flying colours.
Holt said: “The game was a six-pointer and one which we had to win. Our team is full of young boys and we have had a lot of injuries this season which hasn’t helped.”
With top scorer Gary Fraser banned, Montrose went with Adrian Mallagaray and Ross Campbell up front and Holt described the duo as “different class” with the way they held the ball.
“We were the better team in the first half and had more of the play than them, but we lost two silly goals due to a lack of concentration,” he said.
The visitors scored in their first attack on 21 minutes when the unmarked Kris Faulds lobbed home and doubled their lead when Orr made it 2-0.
The home side had a mountain to climb, but they began their fightback on 54 minutes. A Mallagaray corner was headed on by Greg Pascazio and Graham Webster scored at the back post.
Montrose levelled on 76 minutes. A Mallagaray free-kick came off the head of a defender and Pascazio nodded home.
The fightback was complete with a winning goal on 83 minutes, when on-loan St Johnstone youngster Aaron Comrie curled a beauty into the top corner for his first goal in senior football.
