Former Dundee and Dundee United player Steven Robb is hoping to make a little piece of football history next month.
Robb is playing in Thailand for Thai Port and his club have made it through to the country’s league cup final on October 15.
The winger is determined to become the first Scot to get his hands on the trophy.
Robb moved to Asia in January and helped his Bangkok-based side through to the final with recent wins over Police United and Phattalung. He is now waiting to see who they will face next month, with the second semi-final taking place this weekend.
He said: ”We are through to the final of the league cup, so it’s really exciting. The other semi-final between Buriram PEA and Chonburi is this weekend, so we’re just waiting to see who we get.
”It is guaranteed to be a sell-out whoever it is, though, because both clubs get about 20,000 fans to every game.
”Whoever it is against we think we have a chance and it would be a massive achievement to win the cup.”
Robb says he has adapted well to life in Thailand and he reckons the exotic destination is somewhere other Scottish players should consider.
He said: ”Football is really up-and-coming across here and the fans are very enthusiastic about it.
”Obviously, it’s different to the SPL but they are really backing the league and it’s improving all the time.
”Also, the lifestyle is great so I would recommend it to anyone.”
