The former Dundee management team of Jocky Scott and Ray Farningham are understood to be seeking legal recourse against the Dark Blues over compensation.
Scott and Farningham departed Dens Park on March 21 despite having the team three points clear at the top of the first division at the time.
The pair have remained tightlipped since being replaced by Gordon Chisholm and Billy Dodds, with Scott only breaking his silence to defend himself against claims by his successor that the Dundee squad lacked fitness.
Behind the scenes, though, Courier Sport understands that the duo have now contacted a legal team in a bid to seek payments they believe they are due.
Montrose have targeted Ray Farningham for their assistant manager vacancy.
Gable Endies boss Steven Tweed wants Farningham who earlier this week turned down the chance to join Paul Sheerin at Arbroath as his number two following the departure of Jim Moffat.
The pair played together at Dundee in the late 1990s.
