Opponents’ cup commitments give Dundee clubs an extra weekend off
ByNews reporter
Dundee United and Dundee will both have a weekend off at the end of this month because of the Scottish Communities League Cup.
The Tangerines were due to host Kilmarnock for an SPL clash at Tannadice on Saturday January 28. However, Killie will instead be at Hampden that day facing local rivals Ayr United in the first of the cup semi-finals.
The Dark Blues were scheduled to travel to Falkirk to face their fellow promotion hopefuls in a First Division encounter the same day but instead will get an enforced break to enable the Bairns to meet Celtic at the national stadium on the Sunday in the other last-four game.
A new date of February 8 has already been found for Hearts v Celtic, one of the other the postponed matches, while Partick v Ayr still has to be rescheduled.
It is the second such cancellation for Dundee, who were due to play Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park on March 31 until the Lanarkshire club booked their place in the Ramsdens Cup final against Falkirk that weekend.
