Joy for Dundee’s Rory Loy after day to remember

It was a game to remember in so many ways for Rory Loy at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The striker scored two and set up another for the Dark Blues as they ran riot against a shell-shocked home side.

The emphatic 4-0 victory, which made Paul Hartley’s new-look team early league leaders, was also notable for the outstanding nature of the performance which left the manager purring afterwards.

However, Loy has warned that no-one in the Dundee squad is getting carried away just yet.

The former Falkirk front man said: “It’s a great start. You always want to get off to a winning start but to do it so comprehensively is nice. I don’t think anyone expected to win 4-0, but we’ll take it.

“We have been working on our movement and attacking play in pre-season. We actually didn’t score many goals in pre-season but chances were created. It was just a matter of taking them and there is no better time to do that than in the first competitive game.

“To get a couple of goals is great. But the most important thing was the three points. I managed to get an assist as well so we move onto next week.

“It’s never easy to play good football. Everyone talks about wanting to be a passing side. I think if you spoke to every manager in the league they would say they want to play passing football. It’s not easy to put it into practice but we did that today.

“Qualifying for Europe is a bit far off at the moment. It’s only after game one and we are not getting ahead of ourselves. We’ll go into the Hearts game next week and hopefully try and reproduce the same performance.”
