Benedictus says Dark Blues are keen to make up for another disappointing day

Kyle Benedictus insists that the only way Dundee will return to winning ways is through sheer hard work.

John Brown’s side have been replaced at the summit of the Championship by Saturday’s opponents Falkirk, whose 2-0 victory over the Dark Blues took them to the top on goal difference.

The defeat Dundee’s second successive loss came at a further cost with first-choice keeper Kyle Letheren being red carded on the stroke of half-time after conceding a penalty.

It was a bad day all round for the club and more than 900 fans who had made the trip to Falkirk.

However, Benedictus has stressed that there is still everything to play for in the race for the automatic promotion spot and the team are determined to turn things around on Saturday against Alloa.

He said: “Falkirk have a lot of good players coming through and they are a high pressing team that like to get the ball down and play.

“I just thought we didn’t get out of the traps. When we went down to 10 men we battled hard and there was a lot of effort but sometimes that alone is not enough.

“We are really disappointed with the result but Hamilton lost again so it’s not all doom and gloom just yet.

“The Falkirk game’s over now so the most important thing is to knuckle down and fully focus on next Saturday and hopefully get three points.”

Brown did not believe it was a penalty or a sending off but he also took time to pay credit to the Bairns for their display.

He said: “The second goal was the killer as we felt we were getting half chances here and there.

“I was really disappointed with the sending off. The officials should have seen it better than that. I don’t think it was a red card and it was definitely not a penalty.

“Overall though I don’t think we did enough. Fair dos to Falkirk, they were the better side even when it was 11 versus 11.

“They were causing us a few problems and we never really threatened them so it is something we have to work on.”

Following the clash with the managerless Wasps, Brown’s side play host to title rivals Hamilton before hitting the road to Dumfries to play Queen of the South.
