Paul Hartley suffered the first defeat of his Dundee managerial career as Championship strugglers Cowdenbeath pulled off a shock victory at Central Park.

Dundee, whose lead at the top of the table has been cut to a solitary point, completely dominated the first half in terms of possession and territory but it was the home side who took the lead against the run of play.

There seemed little danger in the 33rd minute when another attack by the Dark Blues broke down but Cowdenbeath worked the ball forward and it eventually arrived at the feet of debutante Rory McKeown who hit a crisp angled drive from the edge of the Dundee box into the bottom left corner of Kyle Letheren’s net.

Ten minutes into the second half, Dundee passed up a great opportunity to equalise when Declan Gallagher found himself with time and space in the Cowdenbeath box but he headed wide when he should have at least hit the target.

That chance aside, Hartley’s team struggled to create further chances with the Cowden rearguard rarely troubled.

However, Gallagher proved a danger again at a corner in the 73rd minute with his header being cleared off the Cowdenbeath goal line.

It was though the home side who made the most of a chance of their own in the 80th minute when Jamie Stevenson played in Greg Stewart behind the Dundee defence and the striker advanced on goal before calmly slotting past Letheren to secure all three points for the Blue Brazil.
