Kyle Letheren will ‘bounce back’ from Scottish Cup blunder says Lockwood

Kyle Letheren has admitted blame for the goal that put Dundee out of the Scottish Cup.

Dundee goalkeeper Kyle Letheren is being backed to put his cup clanger behind him.

The Dens No 1 put his hand up to admit responsibility for the own goal from Gary Irvine that put the Dark Blues out of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

Letheren has publicly accepted the blame for the blunder that ended up being the difference between the home side and Raith Rovers.

Now his team-mate Matt Lockwood believes it is time for the big man to move on.

Lockwood said: “Kyle will be stronger for this in the long run. He has made a mistake which he has admitted to and he will get over it.

“It is all about how you respond to it and we know he has the right character to bounce back. The lads all know he is a good keeper who has saved us on several occasions this season.

“It was a sore one at the time but he has looked good in training since and is just eager to put it behind him.”

As well as Letheren, Lockwood believes the whole club can put the cup exit behind them by beating Morton at Cappielow in the league this weekend.

He said: “The cup is in the past now and we have to move forward. Our full focus is on winning promotion and that has been the main aim all along.

“A cup run would have been great but we all realise the importance of getting out of this division this season.”
