Dundee boss Barry Smith felt his side should have secured more than just a point from Sunday’s match against Kilmarnock.
The Dark Blues had what looked like a cracking Jim McAlister goal chalked off early on, had a big shout for a penalty denied when John Baird was impeded, clipped the woodwork, and also had an effort cleared off the Killie line.
However, the SPL bottom dogs just could not break the deadlock to give themselves what would have been a morale-boosting and much-needed victory.
Smith said: “We were happy with the performance but we just needed to put the ball into the back of the net.
“We have had one cleared off the line and we looked the team who were going forward for the majority of the second half having created chances in the first half as well.
“I thought we should have had a definite penalty. He (Baird) is being held back in the area. So we created chances today and the four strikers we started with did really well.”
McAlister also lamented his misfortune with his early 25-yard thunderbolt “goal” which would have been his first for the club being disallowed.
McAlister said: “It kind of sums up my luck in front of goal. The ball nicked John Baird. He couldn’t get out of the way and he was adjudged to be in an offside position.
“Usually when I hit one like that it goes into Row Z but I couldn’t have struck it better.
“I also felt we should have had a definite penalty.
“A point is a point at the end of the day but I felt we deserved more. But that’s two games unbeaten following last week’s draw at Hibs and that’s the way we have to look at it.
“We will keep plugging away, take confidence from the last two games and be nice and positive going into Wednesday’s match against Hearts.
“We seem to have come back fresh from the recent winter break and if we can get two or three wins back to back, then it will bring us right back into contention.”
