Glamis Castle has pulled the plug on this year’s open-air prom.
After a return to form over the past couple of years, castle director David Broadfoot made the shock weekend announcement that the double whammy of a tough past year and the current economic uncertainty had led to the cancellation of the August spectacle.
The prom had been scheduled for August 10 but Strathmore Estate trustees have taken the painful decision to give early notice that the popular outdoor date will not go ahead.
“In the face of a difficult economic climate and on the back of a 2012 season that was adversely affected by the poor weather we had, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the prom at Glamis in 2013,” Mr Broadfoot said.
“We are not alone in having to cancel our event, with a number of other events in the Scottish summer calendar succumbing either due to adverse weather or the difficult economic times we’re living in, but we took the decision as early as possible so as to not inconvenience those who have already bought tickets.
“Though it is disappointing to have to cancel what has been a wonderful and previously well-attended event at Glamis, we will keep an open mind for future years and if the event becomes viable again we would consider reinstating it because we know it was much-enjoyed by those who have attended in previous years.”
Music fans who have already purchased tickets for the prom will be entitled to full refunds.
