Dundee United fans urged to keep up ‘staggering’ demand for Scottish Cup semi-final tickets

United have now sold put the Broomloan Stand and are now snapping up tickets in the corner section and into the Govan Stand.

Dundee United’s club shop is expected to be busy today as the general sale of Scottish Cup semi-final tickets gets under way.

As of last night, Tangerines season ticket holders had snapped up almost 9,000 of their allocation for the big game against Rangers at Ibrox on April 12.

Now it is the turn of fans who do not have season books to help push the figure even higher.

The corner section between the sold-out Broomloan Stand and still-to-be-allocated Govan Stand is now in play.

If all of those tickets go then the SFA will have to forward another batch as United’s share creeps into the Govan itself.

Tannadice director Derek Robertson praised the fans for proving their doubters wrong and is looking forward to Jackie McNamara’s men receiving “magnificent backing”.

He said: “This has been a staggering response, in just four days, from our supporters and an equally great response from our ticketing and admin staff to cope with this exceptional demand.

“We are now hoping that general sales will see this response continue and ensure a magnificent backing to the team on the day.

“There have been a lot of so-called ‘expert’ opinion expressed that United fans wouldn’t turn up in sufficient numbers for this match and therefore didn’t deserve this type of ticket allocation.

“Well, the facts tell a completely different story.”

Pre-paid tickets can now be collected from the shop, which is open until 7pm tonight, or will be delivered if that was requested.

While Tannadice sales go on, it is a waiting game for Light Blues’ supporters.

The SFA is holding the entire Govan Stand in reserve until they know the exact demand from United supporters.

That means Rangers season ticket holders will probably not be able to make purchases until April 3.

Gers supporters are currently allocated the Bill Struth Main Stand and the Copland Stand but are also hoping to land a significant proportion of the Govan.
