Dundee United are ready to fight back after being overtaken in the league by St Johnstone.
Saints’ 2-0 win over Dundee at Dens Park on Saturday was followed by the Tangerines’ 3-0 defeat to Celtic at Tannadice the next day.
That meant the Perth men moved two points clear of United, who slipped down to fifth spot in the Premiership.
They are not going to sit back and meekly accept that, though, and assistant boss Simon Donnelly insisted they could go on a winning run that would see them head back up the table.
“At one point there was a big margin between ourselves and St Johnstone but you have to give them credit for coming back,” said Donnelly.
“They have now moved ahead of us but we do have a game in hand and have still to play them.
“So it’s still in our hands.
“Of course you don’t want to slide down the league so it’s important that we start winning games.
“We have five to go, starting with Aberdeen at home on Saturday.
“As a club, we don’t see why we can’t win all five of them.
“That’s what we have to focus on and try to achieve.
“There were positives for us last Sunday against Celtic because we competed really well with them then were disappointed to lose the goal right at the start of the second half.
“We then stopped doing the good things we had been doing before the break.
“We move on, though, and we have a great game to look forward to on Saturday now.”
Meanwhile, United fans could be seeing more of youngster Ali Coote in the remainder of the season.
The Tannadice management team have been delighted with the 16-year-old since he made his debut as a sub against Aberdeen earlier this month.
Donnelly added: “He is another of our players who takes everything in his stride.
“Ali is a great kid who has a bright future in the game.
“It was great for him to get his chance in the first team because he was with us in pre-season and didn’t look out of place.
“One or two injuries kept him out of contention for a while but I was happy to hear him say that his target for the season was to make his debut and he has done that now.”
