Raith Rovers boss Ray McKinnon praises new signing

Raith Rovers boss Ray McKinnon has praised Jon Daly for the impact he has made on and off the park since signing for the club last week.

The former Dundee United and Rangers striker played the entire 90 minutes against Hibs on Saturday.

McKinnon admitted he and Daly himself were surprised he lasted so long, especially as his last start was for Rangers against Queen of the South back in March.

The manager said: “I was delighted that Jon managed to play the entire 90 minutes on Saturday as he has not had a lot of football recently.

“I think he was surprised he managed to last so long but he really looks after himself.

“He has had problems in the past with his knees but he has his own training programme to keep himself ticking over as well as taking part with the rest of the lads.

“Jon has fitted in really well at the club and with the rest of the lads. He is a lovely guy and I am sure he will be a big player for us.

“I only see him getting better and better with more game time under his belt.”

With Lewis Vaughan out for the season and Ross Callachan also set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder in a freak accident, McKinnon admitted he would have liked to have brought another player in before the transfer window shut.

However, with his budget spent, that was not an option.

He said: “Ross has had an MRI scan but we are still awaiting the results.

“However, I am resigned to being without him for at least three months which is a blow.

“Ideally, I would have liked to bring one more player in but there is no room left in the budget.”
