David McCracken wants to ruin St Johnstone’s European dream

Former St Johnstone defender David McCracken “would love” to wreck his old club’s European dream.

McCracken will skipper Falkirk in tomorrow’s William Hill Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caley Thistle and if he finishes on the losing side then the Perth men will get a spot in the Europa League.

That is because Saints finished fourth in the Premiership and the Highlanders, who were a spot above them in the table, would go into continental competition as the domestic cup winners.

However, should the Bairns be victorious at Hampden then the Championship side will become Scotland’s fourth representative alongside ICT, Celtic and Aberdeen.

That is a prospect that will give McCracken a great deal of satisfaction despite counting Saints among his ex-teams.

He said: “Absolutely, I would love that to happen.

“Although I played there, and possibly left on not the best terms, we have to look after ourselves.

“We can’t think about anything outside because that is beyond our reach.

“We have to take care of Falkirk and it would be some achievement if we could win the cup and get into Europe.”
