VIDEO: Jack Nicklaus turns back clock for hole-in-one at Augusta
ByThe Courier Reporter
Jack Nicklaus turned the clock back with a hole-in-one in the traditional pre-Masters par-three tournament.
The 75-year-old was one under par when he holed out on the fourth hole of Augusta National, his tee shot landing around 15 feet past the pin and spinning back into the hole.
That took six-time champion to three-under par but he slipped down the field.
Kevin Streelman and Camilo Villegas set the target at five-under with Justin Rose in a group at three under. Jordan Spieth was at two under, one ahead of Rory McIlroy and Scot Sandy Lyle.
Since the contest started in 1960, nobody has ever become par-three and Masters champion in the same week.
Most players treat it as light relief with Tiger Woods, playing this year for the first time since 2004, making sure he could not win the event by allowing daughter Sam to tap in for par on the sixth.
Other non-counting scores included Stephen Gallacher at one under and Blairgowrie’s Bradley Neil at one over.
