Scot Colin Shields struck the final blow last night as Belfast Giants beat Dundee Stars in a 13-goal thriller.
The Great Britain internationalist struck with 33 seconds left of sudden death overtime to secure a 7-6 win and leave the Stars without a win in four games.
The last-gasp goal completed an impressive night for Shields, 35, who claimed three goals and set up two other strikes.
Earlier Adam Keefe had opened the scoring for the visitors, assisted by former Fife Flyers defenceman Matt Nickerson, after only two minutes but Lou Dickenson levelled five minutes later.
Craig Peacock put Giants ahead again less than a minute later only for Justin Faryna to draw Stars level.
Kris Beech made it 3-2 for the visitors early in the second period despite Belfast having a man in the sin bin but Faryna’s second after 30 minutes restored parity.
Shields fired Giants ahead again on a power play opportunity in an exciting see-saw battle but Dickenson’s second of the night on 36 minutes made the score 4-4.
Into the third period and the game stayed tight. Curtis Leinweber claimed Dundee’s fifth but the scoreline didn’t stay that way for long as Shields struck again and Beech’s second with 68 seconds left saw the visitors take the lead once more.
Doug Clarkson then took a hand and the big Canadian marksman fired home with 19 seconds remaining to tie the game.
Shields then took centre stage after being set up by Beech and Johan Ejdepalm to strike the last-gasp winner in an enthralling contest.
The defeat was Stars’ second in the space of 24 hours after they crashed 4-3 to rivals Fife Flyers on Saturday.
Ryan Dingle and Justin Fox had Flyers two ahead inside 14 minutes and Shayne Stockton increased the hosts’ advantage 15 minutes later.

Curtis Leinweber opened Stars’ account after 33 minutes and Kevin Hart slotted a second on the power play three minutes later to increase the tension.
Justin Faryna levelled after 45 minutes to set up a nerve-tingling finish and it was Fox who scored the game-winner 83 seconds into overtime.
This was the Kirkcaldy club’s third straight win, making them the form team in the Elite League and taking them on to the 11-point mark.
Meanwhile, Kris Phillips netted a double as Dundee Tigers edged city rivals Dundee Comets to reach the Autumn Cup Final.
They will meet either Paisley Pirates or Edinburgh Capitals.
Tigers’ Ian Carstairs said: “Offensively and defensively we showed great character and work-rate. This result also showed that if we do the right things then we can win games.”
