Hogwart the snake found pottering around Arbroath garage

Animal welfare staff are looking to reunite an unusual arrival at its rescue centre with its Angus owner.

The cornsnake was found sheltering from the cold in a garage on the outskirts of Arbroath.

Named Hogwart by staff at the Scottish SPCA centre at Petterden on account of its distinctive Harry Potter-esque colouring, the snake was found by a resident of Braeheid, St Vigeans, during a garage clear-out.

The gentleman contained the friendly snake until animal rescue officer Beverley O’Lone arrived to collect him.

Hogwart has already made an early impression on staff at the Petterden Angus, Fife and Tayside Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

Assistant centre manager Coreen Hill said, “We understand Hogwart was fairly docile when he was discovered, which was possibly due to the fact that he was rather cold.

“However, he’s warmed up and settled in well here at the centre and he’s proving to be a friendly guy, which indicates he’s been well-handled and likely to be someone’s pet.

“Cornsnakes are notorious escape artists and can squeeze their bodies through the smallest gaps, so we always advise owners to check their vivariums regularly and ensure their pets are securely contained.

“We’re encouraging Hogwart’s owner to come forward, but if no one claims this lovely chap then we’ll make sure we find him a good new home.”

Anyone who recognises Hogwart is being asked to call the Scottish SPCA helpline on 03000 999 999 and ask to be connected to the Dundee centre.
