T’Pau singer Carol Decker has admitted she thought she was heading for the Swiss Alps rather than Angus when her latest tour date was announced.
Carol told The Courier she thought she would be performing classics such as China in Your Hand in Montreux rather than Montrose on March 13 next year.
She said: “I thought I was going to Montreux I was really excited. I thought I was off to Switzerland.”
T’Pau will play the Town Hall in Montrose during a UK tour to promote Pleasure and Pain, which is the band’s first studio album in 15 years.
It might not be set against the backdrop of Lake Geneva but Carol said she cannot wait to get “hot and sweaty” at the historic Angus venue.
Carol said the Town Hall would make for a highly intimate gig and she has promised it will be a night to remember.
“This will be our first time in Montrose and we’re really looking forward to the gig,” said Carol, who was speaking from Wales where the 1980s legends are putting the finishing touches to their new album.
“I toured all across Germany with Status Quo and we know they played in Montrose this year so it’ll be great to perform there, too.
“I’m familiar with the north-east of Scotland because we played Dundee previously and I’ve been to Perth twice for the Rewind festival.
“I do love coming to Scotland and back in our heyday the Scottish people loved us and I am hoping that is still the case in Montrose.
“Performing in the town hall is going to be very intimate and I love those kind of venues.
“I love the vibe and you get a personal interaction when you do a smaller venue. I love a hot, sweaty gig those are my roots really.”
Carol said she has been touring since 2001 but is delighted to be back together again with co-songwriter Ronnie Rogers for the latest album.
To mark the 25th anniversary of the formation of the band, Carol and Ronnie embarked on a 28-date UK tour during the spring of 2013.
T’Pau’s appearance is another coup for North East Musical and Sports Promotions which has also secured Montrose performances by Big Country and Runrig singer Donnie Munro.
