Nursery staff angry after nasty morning surprise

Nursery staff and children are fed up of dog fouling.

Nursery staff campaigning against dog fouling arrived at work to find the problem had literally spread to their doorstep.

Scallywags Nursery in Carnoustie is calling for Angus Council to act following an incident on Monday that saw a pile of mess left just a few steps from the door.

The offending deposit was discovered between 7am and 7.45am and had to be removed by an employee before the children arrived.

The incident comes after the youngsters and staff launched a poster campaign this month to tackle the ongoing issue.

Manager Gillian McFadyen, 36, said numerous calls had been made to the council’s access line over the past two years to have mess left around the Taymouth Terrace nursery removed.

She said it was now time for the council to install a dog mess bin outside the private nursery to encourage irresponsible owners to clear up after their pets.

“We have been to the council and have tried a lot of things over the last couple of years but nothing seems to make a difference,” Gillian said.

“The gate was open on Monday so it’s possible the dog has just walked in by itself and the owner wasn’t aware. I would like to think it wasn’t malicious but the owner should still be watching to see if their dog is fouling.”

At the start of the month dog mess was found beside a poster made by the children just a day after it was fixed to the nursery’s outer fence.

The poster had carried the slogan, “Please clean up doggy poo, it’s getting stuck on our shoe.”
