Youngsters in Arbroath have been warned not to use the town’s skatepark before it is completed.
Skaters have been spotted using the West Links facility, which is fenced off and still under construction.
It has prompted Jillian Low, the chairwoman of Arbroath Skatepark Committee, to issue a warning that the park is currently not safe and that accidental damage could lead to delays.
The contractors, Alex Butter Landscaping, have reported that concrete had been chipped off unfinished work by people using the park at the weekend.
Jillian said: “The contractors have been absolutely brilliant.
“Every Friday at 4pm they invite the committee down, and we let some skaters have a shot on part of the park last Friday.
“Of course people get to hear about this and the next thing everyone thinks that anyone can go on.
“It’s very tempting, but there is a risk that the park gets damaged and that’s the problem.
“People could also injure themselves it’s a building site which has been fenced off. It’s not a safe place to be.
“They know they shouldn’t be doing it. We’re only four weeks away.
“We’ve waited four years for this. All we are asking is that people wait another four weeks.
“The worst case scenario would be having an opening day with the park not completed because of accidental damage. It would be sickening.”
The grand opening of Arbroath Skatepark is scheduled for October 11 and Jillian is encouraging the community to get behind the event.
Entertainment has been arranged from noon until 5pm for the opening day.
She continued: “Since starting the campaign four years ago to fund a public skatepark, the support and encouragement of the local community has been instrumental in the project’s success.
“ASP Club members wish to invite everyone, of all ages, to help celebrate its completion.
“The event will include live music, funfair rides, a giant inflatable assault course, gladiator joust, sumo suits, zorbs, bicycle pump track, food vendors and prize skate and BMX sessions throughout the day.”
The event is free, with optional donations welcome via bucket collection.
A limited number of stalls are available for any clubs, groups or individuals who would like to take part for promotion or fundraising purposes.
Arbroath Scouts have donated the use of their marquee as cover for the stalls. The group is appealing for volunteers to help on the day.

Work on the site started in early July.
Almost half of the skatepark budget has come from the Scottish Government’s Active Places fund.
