Young Dundee band Model Aeroplanes are hoping to hit new heights in Glasgow on Saturday November 28.

The lads have been nominated for the Hard Rock Cafe Best Emerging Artist Award at the SSE Scottish Music Awards.

It’s just over three months since the band signed to Island Records, the home of legends like Bob Marley and Amy Winehouse.

And the lads – Rory Fleming Stewart, Ben Buist, Grant Irvine and Kieran Smith – are quietly confident ahead of the glittering ceremony at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket.

Manager Paul Grieve told The Courier: “It’s good to get recognition from the Scottish music industry.

“We hope this is the start of a busy 2016.”

The highlight of the Scottish music industry calendar, the Scottish Music Awards has been the main fundraising event for Nordoff Robbins Scotland since 1996.

Thanks to commitment and dedication of the committee, the event has gone from strength to strength and is a major celebration of Scotland’s rich and diverse musical heritage.

Over the years Tartan Clef trophies have been awarded to the great and good of the Scottish music scene with live performances from award winners such as Jimmy Somerville, Paolo Nutini, Biffy Clyro, Emeli Sande, Shirley Manson, Barbara Dickson, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, Eddi Reader, Wet Wet Wet, The View, Big Country and Amy MacDonald.
