A police presence at the West End Community and Sports Hub pavilion off Riverside Drive, after the body was discovered.
The body of a 40-year-old man was discovered close to a major Dundee thoroughfare sparking a high-profile police investigation.
The grim find was made in a locked compound at the rear of the pavilion off Riverside Drive by an early morning dog walker on Sunday.
He noticed the man’s body before 9am and called the police who sent several units to the scene.
Officers burst open the padlocked gate to enter the compound, where goalposts and other equipment are stored, and found the man to be dead.
They then sealed off the area and began a forensic investigation to establish the circumstances.
Their activities close to the railway line and footbridge at Magdalen Green were seen by many motorists, walkers and joggers on Riverside Drive. By lunchtime the operation had been scaled back.
Police said later they were not in a position to comment on the cause of the man’s death as their investigation was still in progress.
The Riverside pavilion was formerly run by the council to serve footballers playing on the local municipal pitches. It is now operated by the West End Community & Sports Hub.
