Travelling Aberdeen supporters have been banned from a Dundee pub after football hooligans went on a pre-match rampage that saw lights pulled from the roof and glasses smashed.

The owner of the Ambassador Bar on Clepington Road told The Courier the troublemakers “went berserk” in the pub before Aberdeen’s match with Dundee United at Tannadice on Saturday.

There were also reports of trouble at the Snug Bar in the city.

Aberdeen FC have condemned the behaviour of a “tiny minority” of the club’s support and vowed to help identify those responsible.

Ambassador Bar owner David Dandie said Dons supporters smashed glasses, destroyed chairs, pulled out lights and punched holes in the roof after gathering in the pub before the 3pm kick-off.

He said the incident is likely to result in a bill of almost £1,000.

He said: “I’m not going to open the doors to them again it’s not worth it.

“They enjoy themselves for about an hour-and-a-half to two hours and then they go berserk.”

A senior Tayside police officer, who was match commander for the tie, is backing earlier kick-off times for games involving Aberdeen and Dundee’s two SPL teams.

Police confirmed that 17 arrests were made on Saturday in the vicinity of the match.
