McCrorie-mania is overshadowing the General Election campaign, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has revealed.

As the ex-Kirkcaldy MP hit the doorsteps this week to muster support for Labour, he joked people were telling him they were only interested in voting for Stevie.

The 30-year-old firefighter is busy preparing for his all-important appearance in the final of hit BBC show The Voice on Saturday and has unprecedented support from a legion of fans.

Scenes of excitement were dubbed “hystevia” when he returned to Kirkcaldy fire station to meet colleagues on Monday.

Mr Brown told The Courier: “I’ve been out on the campaign tour this week asking people if they’re voting and they’re saying, yes, we’re voting for Stevie!”

He added: “I wish him all the best. It’s great for Kirkcaldy and great for the fire service.”
