Kirkcaldy rape attempt: Police step up patrols

The attack happened near Turriff Place in Kirkcaldy.

High-visibility police patrols are set to continue in an area of Kirkcaldy for the “foreseeable future” in the wake of a shocking attempted rape at the weekend.

Police said extra officers have been out and about in the north of the town to help provide the public with some reassurance following Sunday night’s incident, during which a 26-year-old woman was subjected to what has been described as a “prolonged sexual attack”.

Police have been conducting door-to-door inquiries in and around the Templehall area as they aim to find the man responsible.

The victim was attacked in a car park adjacent to a block of flats in Turriff Place at around 10.30pm on Sunday, and police believe the man who engaged the woman in conversation shortly before the assault may live locally.

The suspect police are anxious to trace is described as around 5ft 7in, around 30, and was wearing a dark coloured jacket with light coloured jeans and trainers.

Officers say the man talked to his victim as she walked along Dallas Drive in the minutes before the attack, telling her that he lived in the area and had been drinking earlier in the evening with a friend.

A police spokesman said: “Additional high-visibility patrols will again be in the area and this will continue for the foreseeable future.

“Our inquiries continue and anyone who has information that might assist officers with the ongoing investigation is asked to call police on 101 or alternatively the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
