The developer behind the first phase of the £3.5 million refurbishment of the former St Andrews Golf Hotel has given The Courier a preview of how the interior will look when it opens on April 1.

Hotel du Vin, on The Scores, will employ around 60 people when it opens.

Redevelopment of the existing bedrooms, bar and restaurant is well under way, but work to add a new accommodation block at the rear will continue into the summer.

This second phase, which will boost capacity from 22 rooms to around 40, is planned to be complete by August.

Recruitment for the new hotel has already begun, upping employment at the site around four-fold and creating dozens of new jobs in the town’s tourism sector.

A hotel spokesperson said: “On April 1 2014, Hotel du Vin St Andrews will be the first luxury hotel within St Andrews’ Old Town, perfectly positioned, just in time for the summer’s most prestigious golf tournaments.

“Hotel du Vin is already an integral part of the town’s community and history, offering an unbeatable location in the historic town of St Andrews.

“The traditional stone and slate hotel provides guests with the best views of St Andrews be it from the bistro, bar or bedrooms.

“Dark leathers and subtle patterns adorn the 22 spacious bedrooms and the same custom-made, Egyptian cotton beds, flat-screen TVs and Lavazza coffee machines that are expected of Hotel du Vin welcome guests in St Andrews.

“En suites feature large, monsoon showers while some boast the much-loved freestanding, roll top bathtubs. The heart of Hotel du Vin St Andrews will be its bistro.

“Overlooking the crashingwaves of St Andrews Bay, the bistro will serve Hotel du Vin’s signature French-inspired menu for lunch and dinner with an emphasis on quality wine. Champagnes and wines will be carefully selected by Hotel du Vin St Andrews’ expert sommelier, and each will be closely matched with the items on the bistro’s seasonally changing menus.”

The development will also refresh the interiors of next-door Ma Bells pub. The pub has been a long-standing feature in the town, having served countless students, golfers, locals and visitors since it first opened and where soon afternoon tea and pre or post-dinner drinks can be enjoyed in great company.
