A serious road accident involving a car and an articulated lorry occurred on the A92 south of Melville Lodges Roundabout on Thursday morning.
The accident happened just a few hundred yards from the site of the fatal accident that claimed the lives of two men early on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said they received the call today at 7.15am.
The accident had occurred on the A92 between Melville Lodges roundabout and Ladybank at the turnoff for the Fife Council landfill site at Melville Wood.
The accident involved a Mazda 3 and an articulated lorry.
The female driver of the Mazda was being removed from the car by fire service personnel.
She was conscious and breathing and speaking to the emergency services throughout.
The woman has been taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with “potentially life changing but not life threatening” injuries.
The lorry driver was uninjured, police said.
Fire crews had removed the roof of the car and a trauma team was assessing the casualty.
The road was blocked in both directions and local diversions were in operation.
A fire service spokesman said:”The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Operations Control Thornton received a call at 7.16am this morning to a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry near the Melville Lodges Roundabout, A92 in Fife.
“Crews from Auchtermuchty, Cupar and Glenrothes were immediately mobilised to the incident and on arrival discovered one female driver trapped in the car. Firefighters quickly stabilised the vehicle and used specialist hydraulic cutting gear to remove the roof. They safely freed the trapped woman and passed her into the care of the ambulance service.”
Fife Council said the articulated lorry was not a council vehicle.
