Jail warning for man who sent ex up to 70 texts a day

A spurned lover bombarded his former partner with up to 70 texts a day, Perth Sheriff Court has heard.

Desperate to reunite with his ex-girlfriend, Paul Marshall embarked on a mission to win his way back into her affections, sending her messages and visiting her house on a daily basis.

The woman was terrified as he knocked on her doors and windows, before shouting through her letterbox in a bid to get her attention.

This went on for about three months before she contacted the police.

The court heard that she was also forced to change her number so the 43-year-old could no longer call her.

Marshall, of Campsie Road in Perth, admitted that between January 1 and March 18 this year, he engaged in a course of conduct that caused a woman fear and alarm.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis revealed this was the second time the accused had appeared before him for a similar offence and said he was considering a custodial disposal.

“This is a continuation of a matter for which I sentenced you last year,” he added.

“Your former partner is entitled to a life of her own she doesn’t have to put up with you knocking on her doors and windows and sending her 70 texts a day.

“You are teetering on the edge of a custodial sentence.”

Sentence was deferred on Marshall until August 27 for background reports.
