A leading Tayside fire officer has urged people to ensure this year’s Bonfire Night passes without major incidents.
Rab Middlemiss, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) group manager for Perth and Kinross, is asking residents to attend public events rather than private parties.
Statistics were released by the authority stating they are up to four times busier on November 5 than any other night of the year.
Mr Middlemiss said: “It is against the law for fireworks to be sold to children and young people.
“If people are aware of this happening they should report it to the police or trading standards.”
He added: “We would also encourage the public to report unsafe or dangerous bonfires or bonfire materials, and any suspicions of deliberate fire setting. In doing this, we can keep our communities safer together.”
SFRS will be working closely with councils and Police Scotland to encourage people to attend organised events and identify any accumulations of waste, which will be uplifted.
The service also aims to support its partners on Thursday and take part in joint patrols.
SFRS has produced guidance and safety tips about Bonfire Night.
This includes information about bonfire and fireworks safety, which has a bonfire and fireworks safety leaflet which can be downloaded. In addition, SFRS will be offering tips on staying safe through their social media.
