Two women have been taken to hospital following a collision between a coach and a car on the A9 Perth to Inverness road, with the southbound carriageway being closed for a period as a result.
The accident, which occurred shortly after 10.20am on a dual carriageway stretch of the notorious road nearDunkeld, led to traffic being diverted near Bankfoot.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said a female had to be released from the car using cutting equipment and was then taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee formedical treatment. She added that another female passenger of the car was also taken to hospital.
The spokesperson also confirmed that there were no passengers on theInverness-based D & E coach and that the bus driver was uninjured.
There were long queues due to the road closure and diversions were put in place at the B867 towards Waterloo, before rejoining the A9.
The southbound carriagewayre-opened around 12.35pm.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland attended following a road trafficcollision which involved a bus and a car on the A9 near to Bankfoot. Thesouthbound lane was closed and diversions are in place.
“Two women were taken to hospital by ambulance around 11.30am.”
A pair of ambulances weredespatched to the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
A spokesman for D & E Coaches confirmed one of their vehicles was involved in the collision.
“Our driver claimed he was sitting static on the dual-carriageway withhazard lights on when this accident took place,” he said.
“Fortunately the bus was empty at the time. We were told that two passengers from the car were taken to hospital.”
The police spokesman added that “inquiries” were “ongoing” regarding the circumstances concerning thereasons for the crash.
