St Johnstone end Adam Morgan’s stint at McDiarmid Park

St Johnstone have brought former Liverpool kid Adam Morgan’s bitterly disappointing stint at McDiarmid Park to an end, boss Tommy Wright confirmed yesterday.

The 20-year-old made just five appearances for the Perth club after signing on loan from English Championship side Yeovil in September and failed to score in any a record which has no doubt hastened his departure.

The forward came through Liverpool’s Academy set-up before being given his break in the senior side by Brendan Rodgers at the start of the 2012/13 season, but Wright has no doubt been left disappointed by Morgan’s failure to make an impact since coming north.

“We sent Adam Morgan back to Yeovil last week,” Wright told Courier Sport.

“It just hasn’t worked out for Adam and that’s it.

“I wish him well.”

Wright had hoped Morgan would have turned into a suitable replacement for Steven MacLean after the striker suffered a long-term knee injury, but it wasn’t to be.

The irony now, of course, is that MacLean is back in training and is remarkably pushing for a start against Dundee United this coming Saturday.

Both he and fellow long-term injury absentee Tom Scobbie returned to training on Friday, although MacLean who trained fully on Sunday – is progressing well and could come back into contention for a starting slot at McDiarmid Park this weekend.

Saints have also been boosted by the presence in training of Gary Miller and James McFadden, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, and both took part in running sessions yesterday.

Both players are expected to train fully today and on Friday and should be fit for Saturday barring any mishaps.
