Long-serving board member Harry Cairney has been elected as the new president of co-operative retailer, chemist and funeral care firm Scotmid.
The group’s board of directors voted to appoint Mr Cairney, who has been acting president since the passing of predecessor Hollis Smallman earlier this year, and his deputy Jim Watson in permanent roles.
They have a combined 81-year association with the group, including a total of 29 years on its board.
“It is a huge honour to become president and to follow in the footsteps of Hollis,” Mr Cairney said. “He has left a great legacy and I am determined to ensure that this society continues to go from strength to strength.”
