GS Insurance & Financial Services’ vote of confidence in Dundee

GS Insurance & Financial Services’ vote of confidence in Dundee

A Perth independent insurance brokerage is to open its first Dundee office after securing more than £1 million of business in the city last year.

GS Insurance & Financial Services is creating eight jobs as a result of its investment in its new office at City Quay.

The jobs a mix of financial services and administrative roles increase GS’s overall workforce to 55, the highest level it has ever reached in the company’s 22-year history.

Founder George Stubbs said, with major developments such as the V&A on the horizon, it was the right time to establish a physical operation in the city.

“I think that business in Dundee has started to accelerate and we want to have a secure base in the city,” Mr Stubbs said.

“We secured more than £1m worth of business in Dundee last year and this provided the impetus to base ourselves there. We are looking forward immensely to doing a lot of business in the city over the coming years.”

GS began life as a sole trading company in Perth in 1991. It has since expanded considerably, effectively doubling in size every five years.

It has added offices in Glasgow and Falkirk. Staffing levels have increased by more than a quarter over the past two years alone. Premium income is set to exceed £20m this year.

Mr Stubbs said his company was committed to providing local employment and investing in its workforce to ensure they were as well qualified as possible.

He said he was now looking forward to repeating the success GS had experienced in other locations in Dundee.

“Glasgow has been a major success story and has accounted for more than £6m worth of business in the three years we have been open there,” said Mr Stubbs.

“We have continued to build business on solid foundations and we are hopeful that Dundee will continue our success,” he added.
