An increase in oil and gas related work has helped Scottish accountancy firm Johnston Carmichael to post an increase in profits, writes Graham Huband.
The company, which has 12 offices across Scotland including outlets in Perth and Forfar, saw fee income increase by 6% to £29.6 million in the year to the end of May. Net profits climbed by 8% in the period from £9.13m to £9.87m.
The independent company is one of Scotland’s largest professional services firms with 54 partners and more than 470 staff.
It further expanded its operations in the North-East earlier this year after a merger with Ritson Smith.
“We are very encouraged by our robust performance despite the challenging times for the wider economy,” chief executive Sandy Manson said last night.
“We don’t pretend that there will be any quick fix to the wider challenges for our economy, however, we are encouraged by the many examples of entrepreneurial companies continuing to invest and innovate and similarly we will continue to invest in our capability and expertise to serve our growing client base right across Scotland.”
Mr Manson said there were tough times ahead in 2013 but he is confident Johnston Carmichael will continue to make progress.
