Perthshire farmer Tom Paterson wins Blackface breed accolade

At the recent annual meeting of the Blackface Sheep Breeders Association, it was agreed that John Hamilton, Aikengall, Dunbar, would continue as president with Pamela Nicol, Doldy, Glenisal, as vice-president.
David Shedden, Burnfoot, was welcomed on to the board as junior vice-president with Billy Renwick appointed as honorary president.
The Connachan Salver presented annually by the association in recognition of services to the breed was awarded to Tom Paterson who farms Dunruchan and Craigneich at Muthill, along with his wife Mairi and son Robert.
Tom is a breeder of both South and North type Blackfaces and has herded the breed since he was 12 years old and is passionate about showing having won many championships with both types.
In 2010 he was presented with a crystal decanter and glasses for his involvement with Blackface sheep at the Royal Highland Show for 50 years in his own name.
Tom is also a well-respected judge having judged many prestige shows all over the UK.
He is an active member of District 8 of the association and of the Perth Ram Society.
