Melfort sits on Duntrune Terrace, a quiet street off Strathearn Road in Broughty Ferry.

Completed in 1927, it was designed as his own residence by local architect George C. Morton.

It fits nicely into what was once one of the richest suburbs of Europe, described by the late Dundee University historian Charles McKean as “where merchant princes and jute barons came to construct their palatial mansions.”

With six bedrooms and a large walled garden, Melfort is big enough for even the largest families.

The house has been comprehensively refurbished in recent years, with bathrooms, kitchen, windows and boiler all being replaced within the last decade or so.

Internally, the original wood panelling, pitch pine doors and staircase, fireplaces and a distinctive foliage patterned ceiling decoration, have all been retained and restored.

An elegant hall links the principal downstairs rooms including the impressive drawing room which boasts French doors out to the garden, a bay window, fireplace and book shelves.

There’s sitting room with bay window and fireplace. The dining room has wood panelling and doors into the kitchen/breakfast room make a pleasant flow between the two rooms.

Melfort, 4 Duntrune Terrace, Broughty Ferry is on sale with Savills for offers over £825,000.
