Forfar Sheriff Court.
Forfar Sheriff Court.

A serving police officer is to stand trial accused of dangerous driving after allegedly running a red light in a police car before smashing into another car at speed.

Jennifer Jones is said to have hurt herself and a female passenger in car she hit in the incident.

At a hearing at Forfar Sheriff Court  she was accused of causing the crash in Arbroath’s Burnside Drive, at it’s junction with Brothock Bridge, on November 24, 2014.

Pc Jones faces a single charge of dangerous driving, and is accused of driving a marked police car dangerously while on duty.

She is alleged to have driven at excessive speed and failed to comply with a signal to stop lawfully provided by a red traffic light.

Prosecutors say that caused her to collide with another car being driven by a woman, whereby both vehicles were damaged and she and a passenger in the other car were injured.

Jones, 28, whose address was given as care of the Police Service of Scotland, pleaded not guilty to the charge on summary complaint.

A further pre-trial hearing was set next month.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “It would be inappropriate to disclose details regarding an individual’s employment.”
