Craig Gallacher, 33, of South Baffin Street, was jailed for eight months at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Gallacher admitted possessing a knife in a public place at Fleming Gardens North on February 20, while on an undertaking to appear at court.
He also admitted stealing a quantity of razor blades at Morrisons in Afton Way and assaulting Christopher O’Dwyer, a security guard there, presenting a knife at him and uttering threats of violence, on the same date, while on an undertaking to appear at court.
The court heard the weapon was a black-handled knife with a four to five-inch blade.
Solicitor Jim Caird said that while Gallacher had an extensive record, he had no previous convictions for violence.
However, he conceded it was an “extremely serious matter”.
