Local ‘brat’ shopkeeper, 27, threatened to blow up gym owner’s car

A “privileged” shopkeeper threatened to blow up a gym owner’s car then told him he’d be “like the Duracell bunny” in his harassment of him.

Umayr Asif told Graham McCann that he was “high up in the drugs trade” and would be “the biggest headache” in his life.

Asif then phoned him at 6.20am, telling him: “I’m dangerous — next time your car will be blown up.”

At Dundee Sheriff Court, Asif was told his was a “disturbing case” and that he was a “spoiled brat”.

Depute fiscal Claire Rowan told the court: “The complainer and the accused are known to each other — the complainer is the ex-partner of the accused’s girlfriend.

“The accused called at 6.21am on the date in question and first said he didn’t want to be brought up in civil proceedings because it was nothing to do with him.

“He then goes on to make threats saying he is ‘high up in the drugs trade’ and ‘next time your car will be blown up’.

“He adds, ‘I can pay some little straggler £50 to come and put your car on fire, that’s all I’m saying’.

“He continues: ‘I’ll be the biggest ******* headache in your life — I’ll never physically hurt you. I’ll be like the Duracell bunny — I’ll just keep coming back and coming back’.

“The accused next said: ‘The police do **** all — they are not going to help you, they are all ******* idiots’.”

Asif, 27, of Braeside, Auchterhouse, pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his victim on December 3 last year.

Solicitor advocate Kris Gilmartin, defending, said: “He had a privileged upbringing but has put his parents through the ringer in the last couple of years.”

Sheriff Alastair Brown imposed a community payback order with 300 hours of unpaid work, one year’s supervision and an antisocial behaviour order barring Asif from threatening violence towards his victim or behaving in a manner that could cause him alarm or distress.

He said: “The impression I’m getting is he is being a spoiled brat and thinks things should go his way and he manipulates to get that.

“This is a disturbing case.

“The threats which you made were absolutely unacceptable.”
