A man stole a car from outside a Dundee pub and left a trail of destruction on local streets — then told police: “I fair got around, didn’t I?”
Alistair Turnbull, of St Boswells Terrace, was jailed for 16 months.
At Dundee Sheriff Court, Turnbull admitted stealing a car from the car park of the Dolphin Bar, in Fintry Road, on January 2.
He also admitted driving the car without due care and attention.
The charge stated that the 35-year-old collided with a parked car and damaged both cars involved. He then drove off erratically through Fintry and nearby.
He collided with a number of other cars at Fountainbleau Drive, Finavon Street, Finavon Terrace, Findowrie Street, Findchapel Place, Fintry Drive, Fintry Crescent, Fintryside, and Findale Street, on January 3.
Fiscal Joanne Smith said: “The accused was seen to be driving very slowly, waving across the roadway in a very erratic fashion. He was seen to collide with a number of vehicles in the Fintry area.
“When police approached the accused in the driver’s side, he had slurred speech and glazed eyes and difficulty understanding basic instruction.
“However, there was no indication he was under the influence.
“He was later detained and charged where he commented to the police, ‘I fair got around, didn’t I?’”
Turnbull also admitted driving without insurance and without a full driving licence, at the same locations, on January 2 and 3.
He further admitted four charges of failing to be within his home address during curfew hours, on April 2, 16, 17 and 19, and he admitted a charge of failing to appear at court on April 30.
He also admitted struggling with police officers by lashing out with his arms and legs.
PC Peter Mustard was struck during the incident, which took place at Finlarig Terrace, on June 18, while Turnbull was on bail.
The court heard the accused was chased down the street by police at about 5am, where he was arrested because of warrants outstanding.
Turnbull was handcuffed and, appearing to be “in an angered state”, he began lashing out with his legs and struck PC Mustard on the body.
As well as a custodial sentence, Turnbull was disqualified from holding a driving licence for 18 months.
