Couple accused of £5k Dundee Malmaison wedding reception fraud

Couple accused of £5k Dundee Malmaison wedding reception fraud

A couple are accused of fraudulently holding a wedding reception, costing nearly £5,000, at Dundee’s Malmaison hotel without paying for it.

Vicky Colville, 34, and Raymond Wilkie, 35, allegedly lied to managers and claimed they had already paid for the services.

It’s claimed the reception took place on December 27 last year with food, drinks, a DJ and accommodation.

Including the DJs fees, the event cost £4,813.60 —but the couple allegedly failed to pay the bill.

It is alleged they handed over a cheque to a hotel manager and DJ, knowing there were no funds within the account to cover these cheques as the accounts had been previously closed.

Colville and Wilkie, both of Eastgait Rise, Tayport, now face two charges of fraud.

They are charged with pretending to Derek Miller, sales manager of Malmaison hotel, that they had made full payment for their wedding package and thus inducing Mr

Miller to provide a wedding reception, including food, drinks and accommodation, the truth being known that they had not made a full payment, and paid a cheque into the hotel’s bank account with full knowledge that there were no funds within the account which the cheque was for, and thus obtained £4,563.60 worth of goods and services by fraud.

They also face a second charge of again pretending to make a full payment to an independent DJ for services at their wedding reception by handing over a cheque with full knowledge that there were insufficient funds within the account to cover the cheque, and thereby obtained £250 worth of services by fraud, on the same date and location.

The case was continued without plea at Dundee Sheriff Court until September 25.
