Dundee man found with child abuse images after being spotted performing sex act at his window

A disgraced ex-soldier who made a video of himself carrying out a sex act at an open window in full view of passers-by was later found with a stash of child abuse images.

Jamie Mullen — who was kicked out of the forces in 2006 over another child porn haul found on his computer — was spotted by a neighbour standing at the open balcony window of his city centre flat.

It was later found he had filmed himself carrying out sex acts at the window and stored the video on his computer.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Mullen, who was today facing jail over the offences, had been deemed a “high risk” of causing serious harm to others earlier this year. He is already on the sex offender’s register until 2021.

Mullen was jailed last year for a sexually aggravated offence under the Communications Act.

He received another jail term in 2006 for downloading child porn while he was in the army, an offence for which he was discharged.

Fiscal depute Vicki Bell told the court that police were alerted to Mullen’s activities when a neighbour spotted him exposing himself on his balcony.

She said: “He was wearing a distinctive hooded top with the hood up, using it to hide his face.

“He was standing there naked from the waist down at the open window of his balcony.

“Another neighbour said he had seen a similar incident previously.

“Witnesses thought it was no accident and he was reported to police.

“On July 22 police attended and seized an SD card, a mobile phone and a computer.

“On the computer a total of 41 indecent images of children were found.”

Mullen, 30, of Cowgate, Dundee, pleaded guilty on indictment to a charge of public indecency committed between February 9, 2013 and May 19, 2014, as well as charges of possessing indecent images of children between June 14 and July 22 2014, and downloading indecent images of children between July 16, 2014 and July 22, 2014.

Defence solicitor David Duncan said: “He was given a custodial sentence in respect of another matter after these offences were committed.”

Sheriff Alistair Carmichael deferred sentence until later this month for social work background reports and placed Mullen on the sex offender’s register meantime.

Mullen was released on bail meantime.
