Jim praises his Dundee players for taking training instructions onto the pitch

Dundee boss Jim McIntyre has praised his players for the way they’ve taken the work they’re doing in training out on to the pitch.

Saturday saw the Dark Blues come from two down to take a valuable point at Hibs and produce a second-half display that almost secured a win.

That left Jim delighted with the performance and the spirit his team showed after looking dead and buried at one point.

“I’ve been seeing on a daily basis for the last few weeks that they’re getting better and taking on the information that we’re giving them, that this is the way we want to play,” he said.

“We want to play at a tempo, make sure we are putting teams under pressure and getting in their faces because if you stand off good players like Hibs have you’re going to get hurt.

“I saw plenty heart when we went a goal behind at home to St Mirren, a team we’re fighting with at the bottom of the table.

“Coming to Easter Road is a different kettle of fish, they’ve got a real quality squad, so from that side of things we had to stand up to a lot.

“We had to make blocks, the keeper had to make saves and that’s what happens when you’re up against top sides.

“Equally, I thought we were very threatening ourselves and maybe with just a little bit more care in the final third of the pitch at times I thought we could have been in again.”

Down to a Genseric Kusunga own goal in 38 seconds, they showed signs of a fight back but went two down in half-an-hour as Ryan Porteous headed home.

Jim felt his men looked shell-shocked for a time after that but once Kenny Miller pulled a goal back on half-time it was game on and Paul McGowan equalised three minutes into the second period.

“We got off to the worst possible start but I thought the reaction between then and the second goal was excellent.

“I thought we passed the ball really well, got into some dangerous areas. Kenny was unfortunate not to score with his header, it’s a brilliant save from (Adam) Bogdan.

“Then we lose the second goal. After that we disappeared a bit and looked fragile. We managed to get a goal back. At half-time we just told them to be careful, there’s opportunities here. Be brave, get on the ball and pass it and we scored a great second.”
