A young Dundee mum had a belated 21st birthday celebration at the weekend after spending her actual birthday having a baby.

Rebecca Innes gave birth to her first child in the same hospital and on the same day that she herself was born 21 years ago.

Baby Danielle is the fifth generation of her family, with a 95-year gap between the infant and her great-great-grandmother Ina Douris, a resident of Menzieshill House.

Proud granny Jacqueline Innes, a staff nurse at Stracathro Hospital, said it was a case of “deja vu” when Danielle, her first grandchild, arrived on March 4.

“Danielle was 9lb 12oz and nearly 22 inches long,” said Jacqueline.

“Rebecca was 9lb 6oz and 21.5 inches long when I had her.

“I had Rebecca in Ninewells as well. It was quite strange being there on her birthday, a case of deja vu.”

Even the time of the two births was close, with Danielle arriving less than an hour after the time of her mum’s birth.

“Rebecca was born at 9.13 at night on March 4, 1990, and Danielle arrived at 10.10 at night on March 4, 2011,” said Jacqueline.

Jacqueline and her daughter’s partner Kenneth Guild were both present at Danielle’s birth.

The proud granny gave special praise to staff who helped her daughter through a long and difficult labour.

“Baby was fine but my daughter had to have treatment but is on the mend and coping well. It was a long labour and traumatic birth,” she said.

“Rebecca lost quite a lot of blood and had to go to theatre afterwards for repairs, but baby is just wonderful. She came out with her eyes wide open. She is just a delight.”

Danielle has become a popular visitor at Menzieshill House, where she has posed for snaps with her great-great-grandmother.

She was back againon Sunday for the Courier photographer, with her mum recovering from a belated 21st birthday party in the Centenary Bar, Clepington Road, on Saturday night.

The family’s five generations are great-great-grandmother Ina Douris, who is Jacqueline’s paternal grandmother, Danielle’s great grandad Alex Douris, who is Jacqueline’s dad, Danielle’s grandmother Jacqueline, Danielle’s mother Rebecca and baby Danielle May Guild herself.
