A charity art exhibition held in Dundee has raised more than £10,000 for cancer research.

The biennial exhibition, now in its 10th year, was held in the Bonar Hall last month and sponsored by Thorntons solicitors and chartered accountants Henderson Loggie.

Around 350 pieces by more than 100 artists were displayed.

More than £110,000 has now been raised for charity by the shows since the first was staged a decade ago and money from this year’s event is still pouring in.

Nick Barclay, managing partner at Thorntons, said, “We received an overwhelming amount of support at the exhibition and are delighted to have been able to help add to the significant total raised so far with the help of all who attended.”

Retired dentist Phil Higginson was presented with an original print from the exhibition after entering a prize draw on the opening night.

George Hay, chairman of Henderson Loggie, added, “This year’s event was a great success and we are grateful to everyone who came along to the exhibition and bought the magnificent paintings for sale.

“We are delighted to present one of the paintings, which was first prize in a prize draw on the opening evening, to Mr Higginson.”

Margaret Rogerson, of Cancer Research’s Dundee committee, said, “Thorntons and Henderson Loggie have showed fantastic support for Cancer Research and this year’s exhibition funds will continue to help us carry out vital research and provide services to those who need us.

“We are extremely grateful to firms such as these whose efforts help us make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.”
