A Forfar building merchants’ charitable contributions are in the pink after they took delivery of a new delivery truck with a colourful twist.

The Forfar branch of Travis Perkins is doing its bit for two nationwide charities after it welcomed a new bright pink lorry.

The 18-tonne crane lorry is one of four similarly-coloured Travis Perkins trucks dotted around the UK and has been decked out in the colourful livery to raise awareness for the firm’s two supported charities Breast Cancer Campaign and Children’s Hospices.

Branch manager Kevin Laird said, “Despite the macho nature of our industry, it seems our drivers across Travis Perkins can’t wait to take the wheel of the trucks. I’m full of admiration for them.

“They’ll certainly get attention wherever they deliver, and I’m certain we’ll gain fantastic publicity for our two charities over the next two years.”

Although it has only just arrived at the Forfar depot, the new pink lorry will not be staying for too long.

It is the only pink Travis Perkins lorry in Scotland, and is moving from branch to branch over the year, to maximise publicity for the firm’s fund-raising efforts.Lorry on the moveIt has already spent some time at the Perth depot and is expected to move to Arbroath in the near future.

As well as having the pink lorry, the firm is selling a number of pink Travis Perkins goodies to generate extra cash.

Staff are selling pink pencils and limited-edition pink models of the lorry.

The Forfar depot has two are for sale at £30 apiece, while the third is expected to be raffled off.

Staff at the Forfar site will also be carrying pink buckets to raise extra cash.

Travis Perkins raises money throughout the year, with every branch in the group over 1200 in all taking part in a variety of challenges to help the named charities.

The firm donated more than £665,000 to worthwhile causes in 2008.
