A property going under the hammer next week is anything but bog standard.
But buyers will need more than loo-se change to snap up the former toilet block in Forfar.
As auctioneers hope there will be plenty of people desperate to spend a penny or at least £12,000 to be precise on the disused public convenience on Craig O’Loch Road.
The ladies and gents, with toilets and basin intact, will be open for viewing at 4.30pm on Wednesday before they go up for sale by Auction House Scotland in Aberdeen next week.
They are on the market after Angus Council closed them two years ago and decided to relieve itself of the building, alongside several other WCs declared surplus to requirement.
Auction House Scotland described the loos as a rare opportunity with huge potential and a fantastic buy for a builder or developer in a sought after-locale in the heart of the town.
Director of operations Gillian Cochrane said the property’s new owner would have to apply for planning permission but it could be converted for a range of uses.
She said: “There is a decent bit of land and it’s on a busy road, so it could be changed into some kind of commercial venture.”
While there have been several indications of interest, she was unable to predict whether the sale of the lot would be flushed with success.
She said: “We haven’t sold public toilets before, although we have sold other unusual things, which is the beauty of auction.
“You never quite know when it comes to something like this.”
The old toilets were among nine public loos which Angus Council closed and decided to dispose of to save money.
Others it chose to dump were in Arbroath, Montrose and Carnoustie.
